An Enchanting New Zealand Woodland Wedding – Dee & Ian

11 Aug
In January 2009 Tom and I spent three months travelling in New Zealand and I have to say I have never seen anywhere more beautiful. We fell in love with the country and feel that one day we would love to make it our home. This is exactly what wedding photographers James & Eleanor, also known as Jel Photography, did. Originally from the UK, they now call Auckland their home (lucky blighters!) I feel honoured to share with you Dee & Ian’s absolutely beautiful New Zealand woodland wedding. Simply magical.

Dee + Ian got married in a clearing called the Fairy Dells at Tara Lodge in Mangawhai. It rained on and off all morning but just before the ceremony was due to start, the rain stopped and the clouds cleared – just in time for Dee’s entry by tractor! Just after they kissed the sun magically shone through the trees, backlighting them perfectly for a few seconds. A real oh-my-goodness-the-light-looks-magical moment! It was a tricky wedding to photograph because the light was dark for most of the afternoon and the tall forest trees blocked out the sun. But the darker lighting conditions seemed to suit the forest theme so thankfully it worked to our advantage. Dee is a florist so did all her own bouquets, buttonholes and table decorations and wore her welly boots for all of her post-ceremony photos!

A HUGE thank you to Jel Photography for sharing such a gorgeous wedding with us. You can find out more about James & Eleanor by reading their blog here. Also, James & Eleanor are trying to book a wedding in the UK next year, preferably July or August however they will consider other months. They will not charge extra costs for flights, just their normal photography fee. If you feel that your wedding would suit Jel Photography please contact them via email – info@jelphoto.co.nz

They would be delighted to hear from you! It will have been 4 years since their last trip back to the UK and in Eleanor’s words “it’s time we visited our families!”  They have a post on their blog all about it which you can read here.

Who wouldn’t love a magical forest wedding, especially in New Zealand?! In fact, it’s a great idea for a vow renewal too… pricing it up already! 😉
